Migrate NOW from Host Link Lite to Host Link Plugin
About Host Link Lite.
- Host Link Lite utilized the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) embedded in your browser. In the past we recommended clients
use the Host Link Lite option if they were connecting to Host Link through a dialup line or if their desktop was older
and could not handle large downloads.
- As a result of a lawsuit against Microsoft by Sun Microsystems the MSJVM is no longer available for distribution
from Microsoft nor is it being included in future Microsoft products.
- Since December 31, 2006, Host Link Lite has NOT been updated to include the latest enhancements to Host Link.
It was recommended that clients migrate off the MSJVM by using the Host Link Plug-in option.
- As of November 9, 2009, the Host Link Lite option has been eliminated. Clients will need to
migrate off of the MSJVM and use the Host Link Plug-in option.
- Refer to the Microsoft website at
http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/ for more detailed information.

Migrating from Host Link Lite to the Host Link Plug-in option.
- Decide which version of the Sun J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) you prefer to use with the Host Link
Plug-in option.
- We recommend using the Host Link Plug-in option with the most recent version of the Sun JRE
(approximately 15MB). To ensure that the Host Link Plug-in file will download in compressed format
you should validate your settings.
- Check if you already have a version of the Sun JRE installed on your desktop.
- From the Windows 'start' menu select 'Control Panel' (Classic View), look for an option starting with
'Java Plug-in'. If you find one or more 'Java Plug-in' options then the Sun (JRE) is installed on
your desktop. Please note that results are unpredictable if more than 1 'Java Plug-in' is installed. If
you have trouble running 'Host Link Plug-in' you may have to remove all versions of the Java Plug-in and
re-install 1 version. If you are unsure of what to do you should consult with your desktop administrator.
- If the Sun JRE is not installed on your desktop then click
