service offerings :
benefits
Host Link is a suite of Services that provides secure connectivity
to host applications via the Internet Protocol (IP). There are four service offerings:
Data Link Switching Plus (DLSW+),
TN3270E,
Web Browser to a host with a character-based interface
(Webnet),
and Java-based Web Browser to a host with a graphical user interface
(GUI).
This website focuses on the WebNet solution. However, the entire Host Link service line is documented
to provide you with a product overview.
Support Scenarios
Host Link services are delivered in two ways: full service
and turnkey (traditional system integration). The Host Link
service line manager coordinates variations of the two support scenarios.
Full Service Support
HP Enterprise Services provides asset management, network
management, vendor management, design, and implementation. Network
personnel offer support in both hardware and software areas.
Staff services include software and hardware maintenance, testing,
troubleshooting, and problem-resolution. HP Enterprise Services provides hardware,
such as diagnostic equipment, and software products to diagnose
and correct error conditions to keep the network running smoothly.
A billing system is provided on a per-user basis to the client.
The Help Desk is staffed with trained professionals to answer inquiries
and provide coverage 24 hours a day, three hundred sixty five days
a year.
The combination of these services provides the client with a managed
network from the access router at the client's location to the application
on the mainframe. This service does not provide network management
on the client's side of the access router.
Turnkey Service Support
HP Enterprise Services designs and implements a solution. If the
client requests, HP will train them to manage the solution, provide
ongoing customer support, and perform vendor negotiation. In the
turnkey support scenario, the host is at a client's location; therefore,
the client may not use EDS*LINK. However, there will be a requirement
for a TCP/IP network of sufficient capacity to support the service.
